A big thank you to all who have nominated in our 40 Free Floors for 40 Good Causes appeal in January. It’s been a fantastic month for nominations and once again, we’ve received some truly inspirational stories and nominations from the UK, USA and Australia and New Zealand.
Don’t worry, there’s still time for you to get involved as we still have 18 floors left to give away. Get your nomination in this month! All you need to do is submit a name and a reason why your nominated cause or person should be considered.
Remember, all nominations from previous months’ will be taken forward, so there’s still a chance your nomination will be chosen by our judges.
Check out our winners and their stories below.
From the UK, Derain House Children’s Hospice in Lancashire. Nominated by James Barnes, Derain House currently supports more than 300 families who have a child with a life shortening illness and a further 200 who are receiving bereavement support. A new floor will be greatly received by the charity!
Our USA winner, Congregation B’nai Israel, has been successfully nominated by Ellen Dubois. Ellen put Congregation B’nai Israel forward as a deserving cause as it’s in dire need of a beautiful new floor to replace a 30 year old carpet. Established in 1897, the synagogue which provides pastoral, educational and cultural support within the community is currently undergoing a ‘Habitat for Humanity’ style renovation project to update its facilities.
And finally, Barney Miller from Australia, was nominated by his fiancé, Kate Southwell, to receive a free Karndean floor for his hard work and determination to walk again after being involved in a car accident in 1999. After being told he would never walk again, Barney has spent the last four and half years at ‘Project Walk’ and has now taken his first steps. Kate and Barney are in the process of building their first home together, so a new floor will make a difference in bringing their dream closer.
Congratulations to all our winners!
